A rising star from the world of pop dropped in to meet students at Emmbrook School on Tuesday lunchtime.

Tommy Longhurst, lead singer and songwriter of Reading’s Only The Poets, visited to talk about his journey, and also played a couple of songs for inspired students.

This week’s visit came following a visit from Wokingham MP Clive Jones last year, where he was impressed by musicians and, in particular, a piece written by a student..

A year later, he organised for Tommy to join a number of students and tell his story, the resilience needed in song writing, and how composers can use their feelings to create songs.

Tommy went to school in Woodley, and spent a number of years working behind the bar at Sonning golf club before hitting the big time.

He and his band have supported Ed Sheeran and Maroon 5 in recent months.
