Reading FC have confirmed that the pitch at the Select Car Leasing Stadium will undergo major improvements ahead of the new campaign.

New owners Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair have wasted no time in making several improvements around the club.

The club will work with Premier Pitches who have also worked with the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

The club says: “The technology uses a combination of natural grass and artificial fibres, with the unique system adopting a SIS hybrid approach to playing surfaces to provide the club with a high-performance surface ahead of the upcoming campaign. The roots of the natural grass mix with the man-made fibres to create an elite playing surface with improved drainage efficiency.”

Chairman Rob Couhig added: “ “The redevelopment of the pitch forms a further part of our commitment to make the Select Car Leasing Stadium best in class in the UK.

“We expect to have the highest calibre of player within our squad, and this work will provide them with the highest calibre of playing service for them to ply their trade.

“With a vast number of matches played at the stadium by both the First Team and the Academy, it was imperative for us to invest in this vital part of our infrastructure.”

James Stabler, Head Grounds Person Stadium: “We’re delighted to welcome Premier Pitches to assist our Grounds Team in the redevelopment of the playing surface this summer.

“The investment we’re seeing into the project will set the standard for the new campaign, and will stand us in good stead when we reach the winter months and beyond.

“We have just gone through the process of killing off the grass before today’s arrival of the tractors. The work will continue across the weekend and into early next week, before we re-seed the new playing surface for the following ten days”
