THE SEARCH is on to find Reading’s best independent business.
Reading East MP Matt Rodda has launched his annual contest, asking for constituents to vote for the winner.
He says small businesses form the backbone of the UK economy, creating jobs, and providing vital services for the people they serve.
And all this despite the challenges currently facing many of them: the cost-of-living crisis, rent increases and soaring fuel, energy and goods prices.
Now he is looking forward to championing Reading’s best indies, with the winners revealed on Small Business Saturday, December 2.
“I am pleased to announce that I will be running another competition this year to find Reading East’s favourite small businesses, as voted for by constituents,” he said in an email announcing the contest.
“This is the third year in a row that I have held this local competition and the amazing response that the Small Business Saturday competition has received in the last two years has shown just how much residents value our local independent shops and businesses.
“The competition has also helped shine a light on the many wonderful and diverse small businesses that we have across our local area.”
He said that this has been highlighted by the recent closure of The Grump Goat in Smelly Alley, which shut following a breakdown in negotiations with its landlord.
“It is therefore more important than ever that we continue to help our local small businesses to continue to succeed and grow by showing them our support,” Mr Rodda continued.
“Please help me highlight the contribution that your favourite businesses make by voting for your favourite now.”
Voting is open until Monday, November 27, and submissions can be made by logging on to: www.mattroddamp.com/sbs2023
