READING town centre’s two cinemas will open on Monday to show a live broadcast of the Queen’s funeral.

Reading Biscuit Factory on Broad Street Mall will open from 9.30am, and places are free.

The General Manager of Reading Biscuit Factory, Matthew O’Ferguson, said: “The Queen has dedicated 70 years of her life to the country and the service on Monday is a historical and important moment that people want to experience together.

“Our cinema won’t be showing films as a mark of respect, so we felt that it was right that we allowed the local community to come together and use our space to pay their respects if they wish.”

And the Vue Cinema in The Oracle’s Riverside is also welcoming pre-booked guests.

Seats have now all been reserved, and those watching the proceedings will only be able to consume complimentary bottled water during the broadcast. No other snacks or drinks available for purchase.

Both cinemas are suspending their usual programmes as a result.

Showcase Cinema in Winnersh is closed for the day.

In Wokingham, the Everyman Cinemas is closed until 5pm, when it will be screening a range of current releases.

Bracknell’s South Hill Park will be screening the funeral from 11am, with refreshments available from its Atrium Bar between noon and 3pm. Space is limited and places are free.

The normal programme of courses, film screenings and shows has been postponed, and the building is only open from 9.30am to 6pm.
