Pangbourne Rotary Club welcomes new member as it looks ahead to Dragon Race

PANGBOURNE Rotary Club has welcomed a new member as it looks ahead to its next fundraising event

Ted Millichap has joined the group following his sponsorship by Den Chamberlain, and was introduced to the Objects of Rotary.

This the induction to the principles of the club, which aims to encourage high ethical standards in business, the application of ideal service, and the advancement of understanding, goodwill, and peace.

Mr Millichap, a retired banker and financial adviser, is from Purley and was drawn to the club after he read a a copy of its booklet, A Year in the Life of Pangbourne Rotary.

He is the 15th in fewer than 6 years to join the club.

Following his induction by President Brian Davies, he is keen to take part in events, including the club’s next fundraiser, set for this weekend.

The annual Dragon Race is set to return to Pangbourne Fete on Saturday, where crews race against one another in dragon boats along the river Thames.

Teams from organisations and businesses are invited to take part to compete for the prize of the Dragon Trophy.

This year’s event will be raising funds for Autism Berkshire, as well as other charities around Berkshire.

The club raises more than £30,000 for charity every year.

Dragon Boat Racing take place from 9am on Saturday, June 8, with the fete open from noon.
