Former Reading FC full-back Liam Rosenior is poised to take over as Chelsea manager, with the club preparing to appoint him as successor to Enzo Maresca following the Italian’s departure.

Rosenior, 41, who made nearly 75 appearances for Reading between 2007 and 2010 as a player, is understood to be Chelsea’s preferred candidate to take charge at Stamford Bridge.

The English coach, currently manager of Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, has emerged as the leading contender to lead Chelsea in the Premier League after Maresca left by mutual consent on New Year’s Day.

Rosenior had spells at Derby County and Hull City before his move to France and has impressed the Chelsea’s hierarchy and are now in advanced negotiations

Rosenior’s connection to Chelsea is strengthened by the shared ownership of both clubs under BlueCo, which also owns Strasbourg.

If confirmed, Rosenior will step into the Stamford Bridge hotseat amid an ongoing transfer window, as Chelsea look to bolster their squad and mount a push for European qualification.
