A THEATRE company in Reading has dusted off its dame’s dress and props as it sets the stage for its latest panto.

The Triangle Players are back with Jack & The Beanstalk, following the titular Jack and his friends on a fun-filled adventure kicked off by the selling of the family cow to a stranger for some magic beans.

The production has been adapted by returning director Lewis Gilbert, who also stars.

The show sees Christine Mather portraying Jack, Paul Studd returning to portray Dame Trot, Tracey Harrison as Lillie, and Pat Kelly as Polly.

Keih Aldersley, Bruce Thomas, Jan Charlton, David Gilbert, and Millie Steane will also round out the cast alongside Violet Bowtell, Donna Stacey, and Martin Morton.

Director Lewis Gilbert said: “The show has been a lot of fun to do, as last year we were putting together pre-existing scripts, but this year I’ve written my own.

“I took a lot of inspiration from the traditional fairy tale, but I threw my own spin on it, and a lot of my own humour into it.

He added: “The cast have really been enjoying themselves; there are a lot of fun moments, a lot of unexpected moments, and a few that you’ll be expecting too.

“There’s lots of songs and funny moments, so it’s been really nice to experiment with comedy more.

“I try to write serious, usually, so it’s been really interesting to experiment with those ideas, both on my own and with members of the team.”

“It’s going to be an exciting show that you’re all going to love.”

Performances will take place at Tilehurst Methodist Church Hall, behind the church, from Thursday-Saturday, January 25-27, and the following Friday-Saturday, February 2-3.

Evening performances begin at 7.30pm on Thursday and Friday.

On Saturday, matinee performances begin at 3pm and evening performances at 7pm.

Tickets cost £8, £7 for concessions, available via: TrianglePlayers.co.uk or via Ticket Source.

They are also available from C&G Hardware on School Road.
