A MAN is in police custody after a woman was sexually assaulted in Reading earlier this morning.

The incident happened around 12.50am on Sunday, November 19, on a stretch of the A4 London Road.

The victim was a 41-year-old woman and Thames Valley Police say that the attacker was not known to her.

After the incident, offices arrested a 41-year-old man who is in police custody.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Beverley Pearse, said: “We are in the early stages of this investigation and work is taking place to establish the exact circumstances.

“We have made an arrest and our officers will be in the area today carrying out enquiries.

“As such, members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence today.”

The DI continued: “I’d like to appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident to come forward, particularly any drivers who might have dash-cam footage.

“If you think you can help, please call our non-emergency line on 101, quoting reference number 43230520067, or make a report online.

“Alternatively, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
