A BOROUGH music group is putting together a concert progamme that combines music from the UK and the US.

Woodley Concert Band (WCB) is delighted to be joined by the University of West Virginia (WVU) Alumni Band, which is touring the UK and France this summer.

“Together, the two groups will present a rich programme of British and American favourites,” said WCB member Cathy Hughes.

The Woodley based musicians have a busy summer ahead of them, including their Joint Summer Concert. With WVU.

“The WVU Alumni Band’s set includes works by Holst and Vaughan Williams, a touch of the Beatles, and the warmth of John Denver, alongside the rousing National Emblem March,” said Cathy.

“Woodley’s half of the programme brings you Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, Bernstein’s America, music from Guardians of the Galaxy, and timeless Sinatra.

“And as a special highlight, the trumpet sections of both bands — around 15 trumpeters in all — will join forces for a rousing performance of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.

“It promises to be a real showstopper.”

The concert can be heard at the University of Reading’s Great Hall, a grand and impressive setting with comfortable seating and easy access throughout.

It will take place on Saturday, July 11, at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £15 for adults, £13 for over 65s, and £5 for under 16s.

Parking is convenient and free, and there is plenty of it.

Seating is unreserved.

People who have not seen a Woodley Concert Band concert before can listen for free through the group’s First Timers Scheme.
