TWO people have died in Pangbourne this evening (Thursday, January 4) in two separate incidents.
The village’s railway station and Tidmarsh Road have been closed by police as they investigate the incidents.
In one, a person was hit by a train.
In the other, a woman died after being involved in a vehicle collision at the junction of Flowers Hill and Tidmarsh Road.
Police are advising people to stay away from the area.
British Transport Police closed all four railway lines that run through the village as part of their investigation, adding to the disruption on the railway, with trains already delayed due to heavy rain and flooding.
All entrances to the railway station on Shooters Hill have been sealed off with police officers directing people away from the scene.
A Great Western Railway spokesperson said: “We are currently experiencing significant disruption on the network and customers are advised NOT TO TRAVEL.
“Flooding has closed several routes and a person has been hit by a train near Reading.
“Disruption is expected until the end of the day and you may not be able to complete your journey.
“If possible, please return in your direction of travel and make alternative arrangements. Please keep receipts for future reimbursement.”
Meanwhile, Tidmarsh Road has been closed at the roundabout by the High Street.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “Our officers are currently in Pangbourne dealing with two incidents.
“Road closures are in place on the A340 at the Flowers Hill and Tidmarsh Road junction following a collision involving a vehicle.
“A woman received medical treatment at the scene but sadly died.
“There has also been an incident on the railway line at Pangbourne Station.
“Because of these incidents, there are a number of road closures in place in the area, and trains are not running through the station.
“People are advised to avoid the area and to plan their journeys in advance to ensure they are not delayed.
“The exact circumstances of these incidents is currently unclear, but we will provide an update when we are in a position to do so.”
British Transport Police have been contacted for a comment.
