IF YOU have ever walked down Talfourd Road and wondered how it got its name, the answer will be revealed next week.
The History of Reading Society is to hold a meeting where its treasurer, Malcolm Summers, will reveal The Most Famous Reading Man You Have Never Heard Of.
The subject is Sir Thomas Noon Talfourd, a 19th-century MP, writer, dramatist, judge and orator.
A contemporary of Dickens, Wordsworth, Browning and Lamb, he is now the subject of a new biography, written by Mr Summers. Copies will be available to purchase on the night.
He will reveal all on Wednesday, October 18, at Abbey Baptist Church in Abbey Square from 7.30pm. The meeting is open to non-members of the society, for a fee of £2. No booking is necessary.
