Reading FC boss Noel Hunt has said that the club is working hard on completing a new signing before their League One match on Saturday.

The Royals have made a total of nine new signings this summer, with Hunt still keen on adding to his squad before the transfer window shuts at the start of September.

Reading still look particularly light in attack after the departure of last season’s top goalscorer Harvey Knibbs, who left to join Charlton Athletic.

Prior to Reading’s home match against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, speaking to Royals TV, Hunt said: “We’re working hard. We are close to a couple. Whether we will get them done before the weekend, I don’t know. But I’m hoping to have at least one in between now and the end of the weekend. So watch this space.”

The Royals are back in League One action on Saturday when they host newly promoted AFC Wimbledon at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

They will also host the Dons in the second round of the Carabao Cup following Tuesday night’s win at Fratton Park as Hunt’s side knocked out Championship side Portsmouth with goals from Andre Garcia and Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan.

Reading are looking to pick up their first points of the new season following back-to-back losses in their opening two games.

Meanwhile, Wimbledon were beaten 1-0 by Luton in their opening match before they picked up three points with a 2-0 victory over Lincoln City last weekend.
