A search is under way to reunite members of a historic Reading College football team as they prepare to mark 40 years since winning a county title.
In December, it will be four decades since Reading College won the Berkshire Schools FA Under-19s Trophy for the first time in the college’s history.
The team’s manager, Mark Roach, is hoping to bring together as many of the players as possible for a reunion later this year, but says he has lost contact with several members of the squad.
Reading College’s trophy-winning run began with a 4-1 victory over Ashmead School, before the side beat Maiden Erlegh 4-3 in the quarter-finals and Eton College 4-2 in the semi-finals.
The team then defeated Upton Grammar School 3-1 in the final to become Berkshire champions.
The final had originally been scheduled to take place at Maidenhead United’s ground but was moved to Berkshire County Sports in Sonning after a fire at the stadium.
Representing Berkshire in the national competition, Reading College went on to beat Henley-based King James’ College 3-1 after extra time in the opening round.
Matthew Griffiths scored an equaliser before prolific striker Andy Fannon netted his 19th goal of the season and Reading FC youth player Richard Archer sealed the win.
The side then drew 2-2 with Buckinghamshire champions Dr Challoner’s Grammar School at Palmer Park before losing 2-1 in the replay, ending their run in the last 32.
Former Reading defender Steve Wood presented the Berkshire Under-19s Trophy to the victorious team.
Mr Roach is now appealing for help to trace several former players ahead of the reunion.
He is looking to contact Jon Jo Connelly, John Matthews, Graeme Predgen, Steve Bass, Linus Dibley, Richard Archer, Matthew Griffiths and Simon Hillier-Horne.
