THE SANTA Run returned to Reading for its 10th annual fundraiser, organised by the Reading Rotary Club.
It sees attendees don their silliest Santa suits and take part in either a 2km or 5km run in aid of the club’s yearly charities.
Chief Elf Vicky Metcalfe said: “It raises funds for our chosen local charities, selected by members, which this year are Starting Point and Reading Community Learning Centre.
“We also raise funds for our Benevolent Fund, which goes to causes as and when it’s needed, usually here in Reading.
“We try to make a community event that’s open to everybody, and we had everyone from babies in push chairs to grandparents, it really was attended by those across the generations.”
It is the second year in a row that the event has taken place on the grounds of the University of Reading.
“We couldn’t have done it without the University, so thanks to them for sponsoring us and allowing us to use their grounds.
“We also thank fellow sponsor Creffields, and supporters Vaughan, Field Seymour Parkes, JH Roofing, Macbeth, The Purple Turtle, Peppard, Hickies, UFit, and House of Flavours.
“And of course to Elizabeth McCrum, Pro Vice Chancellor at the University, and the mayor of Reading, Cllr Tony Page.”
Lastly, she said: “I think the Rotary Club should be very proud that it’s been going for 10 years, and it feels like we’ve survived the change of venue.
“But we’ve got a really good grounding there now, so we hope very much that the university will continue with its support.
“And, of course, our thanks to the Rotary Club volunteers, around 40 in total, and club President Alan Haine.”
