A YOUNG volunteer sponsored by the Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh has returned from a life-changing Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) course in North Wales.
Jarod Robinson comes back with renewed confidence and leadership skills.
The week-long course at RYG Outdoor Education Centre challenged young adults aged 18 to 25 through canoeing, navigation, abseiling, camp craft, problem-solving and a demanding 30-hour expedition.
Working in teams, participants developed confidence, resilience, communication and leadership skills while supporting each other through a series of outdoor challenges.
Jarod, who volunteers with SHARE Earley, helping to distribute surplus supermarket food to the local community, said: “The experience has given me increased confidence to achieve what I want for the future.”
The course was funded by Rotary Clubs across the Thames Valley, giving young people the opportunity to discover their potential, build lasting friendships and develop skills they can use throughout their lives.
The next Thames Valley RYLA course takes place in July 2027.
