Reading FC Women were knocked out of the League Cup by AFC Portchester following a narrow 1-0 defeat, despite a spirited late push for an equaliser.

The decisive goal left Reading chasing the game, and although they created opportunities in the closing stages, they were unable to find a way back.

Belle Rowden came closest for the Royals late on, producing a wonderful dribble down the middle of the pitch before seeing her effort narrowly miss the target as Reading pushed for a leveller.

Moments later, Reading nearly found an equaliser from a set piece when King delivered a free-kick from the left-hand side of the penalty area, but the attempt fell onto the roof of the net.

Despite the late pressure, the final whistle confirmed Reading’s exit from the competition as their League Cup journey came to an end.

Reading showed determination throughout the second half, but the early deficit ultimately proved decisive as they were unable to break down their opponents.

The Royals now turn their attention back to league action as they look to respond quickly following their cup disappointment.
