READING FC manager Paul Ince admitted he is unsure whether the club will still be under a transfer embargo in the summer.
The Royals have been under an embargo for the previous four transfer windows stretching back to summer 2021 after breaching the EFL’s profit and sustainability rules.
Although the club are hoping that the restrictions will be lifted this coming summer, there has yet to be any confirmation.
When asked whether he thinks the embargo will be brought to an end, Ince said: “We hope so, but you never know.
“But even without an embargo we’re not just going to go and spend money willy nilly. You’ve got to be sensible and have a strategy to get the club where we want to be.”
Ince wants to remain focused on the remainder of the Championship season and keeping Reading in the league, but has admitted that the club has started putting some plans in place for the summer.
He continued: ”Even now we’re looking at players that will be out of contract next season. Brian (Carey) and Mark (Bowen) have been doing that so we will see when we get to that stage.
“First of all we need to see where we are and the quicker we can get to where we can stay in the league, then we can start planning.”
