The next generation of artists were treated to a week packed with activity earlier this month, thanks to the annual Summer Art Week at Norden Farm Centre for Arts.
Artist Lucy Wright took the participants – aged between 8 and 11 – on an art adventure throughout the week at the Maidenhead arts centre.
“The kids were fantastic,” said Lucy. “They really threw themselves into the projects, trying new things and full of brilliant ideas.”
They worked on collage and assemblage art, creating pieces from discarded and unwanted objects. Art works included bird cages with singing birds, collages, cast objects, maps, portraits and more.
The young artists were also joined by Norden Farm’s Young Leaders, a programme the centre runs twice every year to give 14-17 year olds hands-on work experience, supported by The Spoorw, Merry and Rixman Foundation. They helped the younger children develop their skills and gain confidence as the week progressed.
The Arts Week culminated in a performance for parents and carers, combining art and drama to showcase the work the young people had made. The show was based around the idea of a fine art exhibition, which was hijacked by daring art thieves, with the participants playing the roles of the thieves.
