Popeyes in Reading

A new American fast food chicken restaurant in Reading could keep on selling food and drinks until 5am in the near future.

The Popeyes at Reading Gateway Retail Park opened in August this year, taking over the former Schmidt kitchen and interior solutions unit.

It is the second Popeyes in the town, with the first opening in Broad Street in the town centre in February 2023.

The company’s website states: “Reading Gateway is a convenient and modern retail destination located just south of the town centre.

“Situated close to Junction 11 of the M4, it offers excellent accessibility for visitors arriving by car and serves as a popular spot for both local residents and those travelling in from neighbouring areas.

“With its variety of stores, ample parking, and casual dining options, Reading Gateway provides a relaxed and efficient shopping experience.”

Now, the chain operators have applied to keep on selling food and drinks between 11pm and 5am each day.

This application has been submitted to Reading Borough Council’s licensing department.

Popeyes is currently open between 8am and 11pm each day.

Increased hours would allow deliveries from apps such as Deliveroo, Uber Eats and JustEat to continue past 11pm.

A statutory consultation into the application is currently live.

You can respond by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.

The deadline for responses is Wednesday, December 10.
