Much loved beer festival returns to Reading

Craft Theory Festival celebrates the best of independently brewed craft beer

South Street Arts Centre in Reading has once again teamed up with local beer, cheese & spirits emporium The Grumpy Goat, to bring you a two day festival of beer, street food and music on 28 & 29 July.

Patrons can look forward to beers from a host of Reading-based brewers including Siren Craft, Double-Barrelled Brewery, Dolphin Brewery and microbrewery Delphic Brew, as well as those from further afield like Windsor’s Two Flints, Wigan’s State of Kind Brew Co. & Dundee’s Holy Goat Brewing. Non-beer fans are also catered to, with wines from Stanlake Park Estate in Twyford available, plus a range of soft drinks.

All that booze will need soaking up of course, and two top-rated Reading food outlets will be present providing sustenance to revellers. Get your carbs from Sarv’s Slice Pizza, a regular pop-up at Reading taprooms, or treat yourself to some spice from the highly praised Clay’s Hyderabadi Kitchen. All that’s needed now is some feel-good beats, and these come courtesy of a host of talented DJs including Tracks & Grooves and LightLands.

With three sessions to choose from, patrons can look forward to the opportunity to meet the brewers, taste a range of beers and soak up a jovial atmosphere at one of Reading’s best-loved small venues. Included in the ticket price is a high-quality branded souvenir glass, plus a 50p donation to Reading Refugee Support Group, so visitors will be helping to support a brilliant local charity as well as independent breweries.

The Grumpy Goat’s owners Anne-Marie & Charlie Beatty have worked hard to secure a vibrant range of brewers.

“The craft beer industry has so many fantastic producers, and we’re always striving to reflect this at our shop,” says Anne-Marie.

“Craft Theory is a chance to bring the people behind the brews out into the spotlight, and gives Reading residents the opportunity to sample wares from great producers on their doorstep and further afield. There’s always a great party atmosphere too!”

“It’s definitely a highlight of our programme”, says South Street’s Artistic Director John Luther, “and we’re so pleased to be hosting the festival once more. Our audiences really missed it in 2020 & 2021, and after last year’s successful return, we’re set to make 2023 our best Craft Theory yet!”

Saturday afternoon only – Under 5s free; all other Under 18s £10.
