READING West and Mid Berkshire Olivia Bailey has launched a Summer School for young people offering hands-on experience in politics, public service, and campaigning.
The week-long programme will run from 3-7 August 2026 and is open to residents of Reading West and Mid Berkshire.
Participants will gain insight into life in Parliament, including how debates work in the House of Commons and the day-to-day realities of public service.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers and design and run their own short campaign focused on local issues.
The Summer School forms part of Olivia Bailey’s wider work to support young people locally and complements the Government’s Youth Guarantee.
Olivia Bailey MP said: “Too many young people feel that politics is something that happens to them, not something they can shape. This Summer School is about changing that, and I urge my constituents to consider applying.
“As an MP, the work my team and I do directly affects the lives of young people here. I want them to see that connection first-hand and to develop the confidence and skills to make their own voices heard.
“Whether someone wants to pursue a career in politics, public service, journalism, or something else entirely, this programme will help them build communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills that will serve them well.”
