THE M4 has been closed in both directions this morning (Monday, January 8) and is not expected to reopen until lunchtime today, following a serious incident.

Diversions are in place while a police investigation into the incident takes place.

National Highways said emergency services were called to the the M4 between junction 14 (Hungerford) and junction 15 (Swindon) overnight, and the investigation needed to take place in daylight.

As both carriageways are closed, there are two diversions.

For those heading Eastbound (M4 towards London), motorists should follow a hollow circle symbol on road signs.

Leave the M4 at junction 15.
