THE LORD-LIEUTENANT of Berkshire, Andrew Try Esq. paid a visit to a charity in Reading this week.

The Lord‑Lieutenant was hosted by Launchpad Chief Executive Officer Su Hamblyn and Centre Manager Zoe Shawcroft at the Work and Life Skills Centre run by Launchpad on Wednesday, March 11.

There he was given a tour of the centre as well as an exploration of the work the centre does, and met with members of the centre’s weekly art group and guitar groups, and other clients using the centre’s computer facilities to build their digital skills and access online services.

Launchpad’s Work and Life Skills Centre is a welcoming, community‑based space open both to people using Launchpad’s housing and homelessness prevention services and to members of the wider public.

The centre offers practical work and life skills training, including IT, employability and confidence‑building activities, alongside creative and social sessions designed to reduce loneliness and help people reconnect with their community.

The centre’s overall aim is to support people to live more positive, independent lives.

Su Hamblyn, CEO of Launchpad, said: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome the Lord‑Lieutenant to the centre and to show him the heart of what happens here every day.

“This centre brings real joy into people’s lives whether that’s through creativity, learning new skills, or simply having a place to belong.

“For many of the people we support, it plays a vital role in preventing loneliness and social isolation, and in helping them rediscover purpose, confidence and hope.”

The visit reflects the Lord‑Lieutenant’s role as The King’s personal representative in Berkshire, which includes recognising and supporting voluntary and charitable organisations and the vital contribution they make to local communities.

Launchpad’s Work and Life Skills centre is open to adults across Reading, and anyone can refer themselves to the centre directly, as well as being referred by partner organisations and support services.

People interested in taking part can find out more about activities and how to get involved via Launchpad’s website launchpadreading.org.uk
