A MAN has been jailed for seven-and-a-half months for a series of shoplifting offences in Reading this summer.
Jamie Borecki, aged 43 and of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Reading Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 17, to 30 weeks’ imprisonment, after pleading guilty to five counts of shoplifting.
It comes after a string of theft from branches of the Co-Op and The Range through July, August, and September, with stolen items totalling around £400 in cost.
Investigating officer PC Joshua Chapman of the Neighbourhood team for Whitley & Church, said: “Borecki has been a prolific offender in the Whitley area for some time, so this sentence of 30 weeks’ imprisonment is a positive result.
“We know that members of the community have been concerned by his behaviour, and I would like to thank everyone who took the time to report incidents to us, as well as local councillors who shared residents’ concerns.
“The information provided by the community helped us build a clearer picture of the impact of his offending and identify wider issues affecting local people. As a result, we successfully applied for and obtained a comprehensive Criminal Behaviour Order, which will place significant restrictions on Borecki and help prevent further offending.
“This outcome demonstrates the value of communities working with their local policing teams to tackle persistent offenders and improve safety for everyone.”
