Crosfields School in Reading is celebrating a strong set of GCSE results, with almost one in five grades awarded a Grade 9.

The independent school said 19% of all grades were awarded the top Grade 9, while 39% were graded 8 or 9 and 90% were graded 5 to 9.

Overall, 97% of grades were between 4 and 9.

The results are the third year of GCSE examinations at Crosfields since the school expanded to include Year 11.

The school said its proportion of Grade 9s was almost four times the national average, while the proportion of grades at 8-9 was more than three times the national average.

Its value-added performance was also rated within the top 10% of schools nationally by ALPS, which measures pupil progress and outcomes.

Particularly strong performances were recorded in a number of subjects.

All French grades were 8 or 9, while 89% of Computer Science grades were 7-9. Some 85% of Physics grades and 77% of grades in Chemistry, Spanish, Psychology and Biology were also at 7-9.

Several pupils achieved particularly high individual results.

Abha achieved eight Grade 9s, a Grade 8 and an A in Additional Maths, while Harveer achieved eight Grade 9s, a Grade 7 and an A in both HPQ and Additional Maths.

Evgeniya and Lucy each achieved seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s.

Head Caroline Townshend said the results reflected both academic achievement and the individual journeys of pupils.

“What makes these results particularly special is that they reflect not only academic excellence, but the individual journeys of our pupils and our commitment to ensuring every child is supported to achieve their very best,” she said.

The year group is also the final cohort to leave Crosfields after Year 11, ahead of the launch of the school’s new Sixth Form in September 2027.

Mrs Townshend said the pupils had made a significant contribution to school life and had helped prepare the school for its next chapter.

Deputy Head Academic (Seniors) James Bown said pupils had been “leaders, role models and active contributors” to the school community.

“We are delighted to see their hard work and determination rewarded with such excellent outcomes,” he said.

“They leave Crosfields having made a lasting contribution to our community, and we wish every one of them every success as they embark on their next chapter.”
