TRAIN services have been partly suspended and are seeing severe delays after a fire broke out at Maidenhead train station.
Just after 7.30 on Wednesday, March 29, Great Western Railway tweeted that the fire had blocked all lines and that it would be offering alternatives to passengers.
Videos posted to social media show the track on fire a few metres away from the platform as commuters stand nearby.
Network Rail has confirmed that the fire has been extinguished, but an investigation into the cause is now underway.
Services were suspended between Paddington, Reading, and Heathrow terminals, with severe delays between Paddington and Abbey Wood.
While main lines have been reopened, but disruption is expected to continue through much of the day, and commuters are encouraged to check travel plans via: nationalrail.co.uk
National Rail posted online: “Following a fire next to the track at Maidenhead, some lines have reopened.
“Trains running between Reading and Slough may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 50 minutes or revised.
“Disruption is expected until the end of the day.”
Tickets for the Elizabeth Line are eligible to use on the London Underground, buses between Reading, Heathrow, and Paddington, and certain GWR and SWR services between Reading and London Paddington or Waterloo.
They’re also valid on Reading Buses JetBlack 1 and services to Newbury, Thatcham, Midgham, Aldermaston, and Theale.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “British Transport Police were called to the line in Maidenhead at 7.29am today following reports of a lineside fire.
“Officers attended to assist the fire brigade and rail staff.”
