As both a father and a coach, it’s hard to imagine a prouder moment than seeing your children achieve greatness and doing so side by side.
That moment came true for Sonny Kalar in Cardiff, where all three of his children — Jasmin, Danni, and Dylan — were selected to represent England in the Racketball Internationals.
Each one of them won their matches, won their categories, and returned home as England champions.
‘It was a dream weekend,’ said Sonny, who is based in Reading.
“To see all three kids selected was incredible and then for each of them to perform well and win, it’s something I’ll never forget.’
Meet the Kalar Champions:
Jasmin Kalar – Captain of the England Racketball Team, led with heart and determination
Danni Kalar – Returned triumphantly from a serious injury to play so amazingly
Dylan Kalar – The youngest of the three, and already representing England 2 years ago in Squash played great and has now represented England in both Squash and Racketball
Their selection followed a year of tough national tournaments, intense training, and remarkable resilience and this is despite all either working full time or in full time education and balancing both Squash and Racketball commitments.
All three have gone from strength to strength under the guidance of their father and coach, Sonny Kalar.
‘”We’ve had tough times, but sport teaches you to keep going,’ Sonny adds. “That’s what we’re all about — Never giving up.”
