A MAJOR incident has been declared following the outbreak of a large fire in Newbury.
Thames Valley Police has announced that a large fire has broken out in woodland along Monks Lane A339, behind Newbury College.
Teams from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service are attending the scene.
Police are advising residents to avoid the area, and those living nearby to stay indoors and keep doors and windows closed.
Monks Lane is currently closed at the junction with the A339 and A343.
Thames Valley Police has explained that the area affected is the area circled in the below photograph.
