Reading FC manager Leam Richardson is seemingly on the shortlist as Championship club Blackburn Rovers search for their next manager.

Rovers confirmed that Michael O’Neill would not continue going into the 2026/27 season following their 20th placed finish.

The Royals boss has previously been linked with Blackburn earlier in the campaign and appears to again be on their shortlist.

Many Reading fans have become unhappy with Richardson due to his perceived negative style of play and after a disappointing run towards the end of the campaign saw them finish in 12th place.

While Richardson has been linked there are several other managers who are reportedly higher up on Blacburn’s shortlist including Gary Rowett, David Wagner, Slaven Bilic and Tony Mowbray.

Richardson, who previously won League One with Wigan Athletic, joined Reading in October as he took over from Noel Hunt.

After a strong honeymoon period which saw the Royals move up the table and away from the relegation zone, fans quickly began to criticise his style after results started to level out.

Reading had looked in a good position to finish in the play-off places with a couple of months of the season left before they collapsed.

Reading picked up just five points from their last eight games as they slipped down the table which had led to a lot of fans questioning Richardson’s position at the club heading into next season.
