Pedestrians and train customers have been told to expect diversions and disruption as a footbridge between Earley and Woodley is being refurbished.
The existing bridge carries pedestrians over the A329M and the Reading to London Waterloo railway line to get to Earley train station.
The long bridge links Station Road in Earley with Woodside, Nightingale Road and Tokers Bridleway in Woodley.
The bridge is due to close from mid-October to April 2027 to facilitate a refurbishment.
Wokingham Borough Council has appointed a contractor to carry out the works, and has also provided a diversion route for pedestrians, alongside Earley Town Council.
During the closure, pedestrians will be diverted via Station Road, Wokingham Road, Henley Wood Road, Henley Wood Subway, Dartington Avenue, and Nightingale Road.
The Earley Station car park will also be closed for use as a site compound.
Therefore, drivers are being encouraged to use the Winnersh Park & Ride car park and train station as an alternative.
Wokingham Borough Council has said that it recognises that these temporary restrictions will cause some inconvenience; however, they are necessary to deliver essential improvements that will enhance the long-term safety, reliability, and lifespan of the footbridge.
