A new headteacher making a huge impact on a primary school has been praised by a parent for his work and for his focus on kindness.
Matt Parting who joined St Mary’s and All Saints in Reading last year has been nominated for Community Champion sponsored by Reading Football Club.
His nominator said: “He is making a huge effort to improve both the education and the wellbeing of the children that attend.
“He brings enthusiasm and a real passion to the job, which is much needed in an area where many families are struggling.”
They added: “Leading his brilliant team of staff, he has already given the children many opportunities for extracurricular experiences; including the cinema, beach trips, speakers and workshops visiting the school, and residentials.
“Having started with a turnover of several different head teachers while my son was in reception, I have seen a difference in the feel of the school, with a focus on kindness that has been hugely beneficial.”
The nominator said the new head had also taken the initiative to open a SEND unit (‘The Hive’), meaning that children who find mainstream classes too much can access education in a less demanding and stressful way.
“We really appreciate that this is an option, as otherwise we would have to look at alternative provisions for our son, whereas with the unit he can attend the same school as our daughter and remain with the friends and staff he knows,” they said.
“Mr Parting has a challenging and demanding job, but he is bringing so many positive results to the school.”
