A patient was left outraged after being told ‘women bleed all the time’ by a doctor at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
Sonia Gill, 56, from Katesgrove, was injured in an accidental fall that happened last week (April 2).
The fall caused a bad cut to her head and a foot injury.
While she was concerned about blood loss, the doctor who was looking after her allegedly made an inappropriate comment about women.
Complaining, Mrs Gill said: “I was taking a call at work, and I don’t know, but I just fell.
“I got up in a pool of blood, and I had to go to the hospital. I had a head injury, and it left a two-inch-long cut. I bled a lot.
“The emergency department kept me waiting four hours, which is fine, but I kept on saying I feel ill and I don’t feel well, but they didn’t give me medication.
“The doctor then asked, ‘what is the story?’
“But I felt there wasn’t a ‘story’, I had an accident – he thought the biggest problem was with my foot rather than my head.
“He then said women lose a lot of blood on their period, so it’s ok.
“I didn’t find it funny; that was just really bad.
“I had to have eight staples put in my head, and hey’ve been taken out by the GP.”
But she is still disturbed by the way she was treated by the doctors.
Mrs Gill said: “It’s one thing being dismissive, but he said women have periods and they lose blood every month!
“Then he asked my daughter to show him where the cut was, but it was so big.
“I told the story to a woman, and she was like oh my God.”

Mrs Gill has reported the incident to the hospital via email.
A spokesperson for the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are committed to creating a caring and supportive environment in which both patients and staff feel comfortable and safe in our hospitals.
“While we are unable to comment on individual cases, we take comments of this nature very seriously and will be investigating the concerns rais
