READING Borough Council is inviting residents to a range of events it is holding across the borough during half therm this autumn.

Libraries around Reading will be joining the museum in hosting a number of activities aimed at families over the school holiday including craft clubs, sensory sessions, and fun and educational fixtures.

Reading Museum will be holding a number of workshops, including the Family Digi-workshop, Ecocode; the return of its Victorian Schoolroom Experience; and the Railway 200 Big Draw, in partnership with Reading Station.

Elsewhere, Central Library will be hosting Autumn Crafts on October 28, while Palmer Park will hold its Paper Plate Weather Forecasters craft event on the same day.

Meanwhile Tilehurst Library and Whitley Library will welcome residents to their Spooky Crafts sessions, with Battle and Caversham Libraries hosting their making sessions.

The events are aimed at building further on the Summer Reading Challenge, which saw more than 1,860 children take part alongside 23 young volunteers in more than 300 hours of reading support across the borough’s libraries.

Cllr Adele Barnett-Ward, Reading’s Lead Councillor for Leisure and Culture, said: “Every family in Reading deserves half term fun that doesn’t break the bank, which is why Reading Borough Council always provides a wide range of fantastic school holiday activities at low and no cost.

“Our libraries and museum are wonderful, welcoming places to explore, learn, and have fun together as a family so I encourage everyone to come along and join in, and let’s hope that the weather is good enough for Reading’s children to enjoy some of our newly refurbished playgrounds as well.”

“We are incredibly grateful to our fabulous young volunteers. Their enthusiasm and dedication helped inspire a love of reading in hundreds of children.

“It’s wonderful to see our libraries thriving as hubs of creativity and community.”
