THE OWNER of a martial arts club in Reading has been jailed after raping a woman in his studio.
Juan Miguel Figueroa-Ball, aged 44 and of Long Acre Close, Canterbury, was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment after being convicted of rape.
He was handed the sentence at a hearing at Reading Crown Court on Thursday, October 8, where he was also dealt a 10-year restraining order, and will be placed on the Sex Offenders Registry indefinitely.
A jury found Figueroa-Ball guilty of one count of rape following a six-day trial at the same court.
He was convicted at the conclusion of the trial on August 25, and was acquitted of one count of sexual assault in relation to the same incident.
It comes after, on July 21, 2023, Figueroa-Ball offered the victim a free one-to-one introductory session at his studio in Ceres Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on Richfield Avenue, Reading.
During a Jiu-Jitsu roll, Figueroa-Ball attacked the victim and raped her.
