Lola Young appears to have teased a surprise appearance at Reading Festival this weekend, after she was forced to pull out of last year’s event.
The singer has left fans convinced she will perform at Richfield Avenue on Sunday after sending a cryptic message to fans containing a hidden clue.
Young’s message reportedly included capitalised letters which, when put together, spell “Reading”, prompting speculation that she could be the mystery act announced for the festival.
The festival’s timetable currently lists an unnamed “special guest” on The Grid – the main stage – at 15:15 BST on Sunday, 30 August. The set is scheduled to run for around 45 minutes.
Neither Young nor Reading Festival has formally confirmed her appearance.
Young was originally due to perform at Reading and Leeds in 2025 but withdrew from the festival because of an “unavoidable scheduling conflict”.
A return to Reading would therefore give fans the chance to finally see the singer perform at the festival after last year’s disappointment.
The potential appearance comes after a day of surprise announcements at this year’s festival.
Jamie T was revealed as a surprise addition to Friday’s line-up, performing on the main stage at midday, while Royal Blood were also announced as a surprise act, taking to another stage at 14:00.
The mystery surrounding Sunday’s slot has led to considerable speculation among festival-goers, with Young now appearing to have provided the biggest clue yet.
If she does take to The Grid at 15:15, she will perform ahead of Loyle Carner, who is scheduled for 16:30, with Role Model following at 18:00. Florence + The Machine are due to headline the stage at 19:55.
Reading Festival runs at Richfield Avenue until Sunday, 30 August.
