After a run of three successive defeats which saw the Royals slip out of the top six, Paul Ince’s men ensured that they addressed their poor run of form to get back on track.

After an uneventful first-half, Mamadou Loum rose highest from Tom Ince’s corner and headed Reading in front as he netted his first goal for the club in the 52nd minute.

Deep into second-half stoppage time, the Royals consolidated the win when substitutes Shane Long combined as the Irish forward chased down a ball into the channel, muscled a defender off the ball and rolled the ball across to Carroll who fired the ball past the keeper to score his first goal at the SCL.

Reading are in eighth position in the Championship with 25 points from 16 games.

Next up for Ince’s team is a tough trip to Turf Moor on Saturday to face Burnley, who are third in the table, four points above Reading.
