Former Reading FC boss is facing immense pressure after just four matches in what has been a nightmare start for the Spaniard at Sheffield United.

Selles took over at the Blades having been sacked by Hull City at the end of the season despite saving them from Championship relegation.

Sheffield United started the season as one of the favourites for promotion having been beaten in the Championship play-off final by Sunderland.

However, Selles’ side sit bottom of the Championship table having lost their opening four matches and the pressure is also beginning to grow among the Blades fanbase.

Sheffield United suffered their fourth straight defeat with a 1-0 loss at Middlesbrough which leaves them without a point.

It took plenty of time for Selles’ system to gel at Reading in what was a difficult start for him in Berkshire before his squad started to achieve results.

However, after a tough first few months, Selles turned the side around and went on to become a much loved manager and had the team in the League One play-off places when he chose to depart to join Hull City in December 2024.

He’s now experiencing another turbulent start to the season with some fans already asking for a change in management.

One user on X said: “Selles has to go now. I’ve tried my hardest to back him and the players he’s brought in, but I just can’t see what he wants to do. Tyler Bindon also offers nothing – one of Ruben’s signings.”

Another said: “Ruben Selles you have blood on your hands again. I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if he was sacked tonight. I’ve tried to be positive, thinking he’d tweak his system even slightly to get a tune out of players good enough to challenge for the top 6, but this has been dreadful.”

Another added: “Sorry but after that I don’t see why Selles should stay, I’ve been wanting it to work for him but this is the worst football I’ve ever seen. We have the best players in the Championship and are bottom of the league, that’s on Ruben. Will be interesting to see how the next week unfolds.”
