A Royal Mail worker from Slough has been jailed for more than six years after police uncovered more than £1.2m in cash linked to a drugs operation.
Amjad Ali, 50, of Olivia Drive, was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday.
The investigation led to what Thames Valley Police said was the largest cash seizure in the force’s history.
Ali, who worked at the Royal Mail logistics centre in Slough, previously pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis, theft of parcels, possessing criminal property and possessing an offensive weapon in a private place.
Police executed warrants at properties linked to Ali, including his home, car and a storage facility, on 12 December last year.
Officers discovered £1,185,420 in cash in a storage locker and a further £42,290 at his home.
Police said Ali used his role at Royal Mail to identify parcels suspected of containing drugs while they were awaiting X-ray examination.
He then dishonestly removed the parcels and relabelled them to be delivered to alternative addresses, including his own, officers said.
The activity took place on a number of occasions over a year between 2024 and 2025, with the cash recovered believed to be proceeds from the onward sale of cannabis.
Investigating officer PC Filippo Brancato said Ali had believed he had found a “lucrative way” to exploit his position.
“Our investigation uncovered more than £1.2 million in cash linked to his offending, the biggest cash seizure we as Thames Valley Police have made, highlighting the significant profits he generated through his criminal enterprise,” he said.
Police said money seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act would be reinvested into policing and community initiatives.
