Berkshire lost by 43 runs to Devon in the second of their four group games in the NCCA Trophy.
Electing to field first at the Falkland club, they dismissed their visitors for 189 in 46.2 overs, only to be shot out themselves for 146.
Batting did not appear easy, as the highest scorer on Sunday was Devon’s Seb Linnitt with 39, while team-mate Callum Harvey was the only other batter to reach 30, though
Matt Whalley remained unbeaten on 29.
Sulaiman Akhtar took three wickets for 46, and there were two apiece for Toby Greatwood, Samm Daniel and Euan Woods.
Johnny Connell took four catches and also linked up with Greatwood to run out opening bat Dan Pyle for 12.
Berkshire soon lost Connell for two, and fellow opener Rhys Lewis fell for 18, quickly followed by Charlie Dunnett for a duck.
Woods also failed to get off the mark as four wickets went down for 10 runs, leaving the hosts in big trouble at 49-5 in the 16th over.
After Andy MacEwen (13) had fallen with the total on 64, Ben Salter (24) and skipper Andy Rishton (27) lifted the score to 116 before both fell to spinner Whalley.
Last man, Daniel was left unbeaten on 15 when the final wicket fell at 146 in the 44th over, with six Devon bowlers taking at least one wicket.
It was a disappointing first home game for Berkshire, and they will be looking to return to winning ways when they host Herefordshire at Wargrave next Sunday (11am).
