Reading FC could have a young gem on their hands as promising striker Sean Patton continues to impress during his loan spell with National League side Aldershot Town.

The Royals purchased the Irish forward on September 1st last year from Derry City on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Reading have an excellent track record of signing players from Ireland including Kevin Doyle and Shane Long who both arrived at the club as unknown prospects but respectively made huge impacts during their stints in Berkshire.

Reading fans will be hoping that Patton will be the next in line to follow in the footsteps of Doyle and Long and he has made an impression during his short time in England.

Patton joined Aldershot on loan for the remainder of the current campaign in January and has already scored five times and registered an assist in six appearances for the Shots.

Reading fans are keeping a close eye on his progress.

One fan said: “Sean Patton needs to be in our season squad. That’s five goals and one assist in six matches.”

Another said: “He should be in the squad for Reading every week, not playing at this level.”

Another Reading fan said: “He’s one for the future. Perhaps he can make an impact next season?”

One more supporter said: “Patton is doing great things at Aldershot. He’s gotta be a better back up than Ehibhatiomhan for Marriott and Keane right? On a season-long loan so not sure if he can be recalled?”
