‘We have a negative mindset’: Reading FC fall out of play-off places after conceding another 96th minute goal as Lincoln seal promotion

Reading FC dropped out of the play-off positions in League One after they fell victim to conceding yet another late goal just minutes after equalising.

Lincoln City went into the game knowing that a draw would seal promotion to the Championship and they flew into an early lead through Ryan One’s header in the 4th minute.

Leam Richardson’s side struggled to create any clear cut opportunities but it looked as if a piece of magic in the 92nd minute from skipper Lewis Wing had rescued a valuable point.

The Royals captain found the top corner with a sublime free-kick with what proved to be Reading’s only shot on target in the entire match.

But Lincoln were not to be denied and capped off what was a special day in their history when Jack Moylan broke away in the 96th minute and slammed the ball past Joel Pereira to clinch victory.

It’s the second successive game that Reading have conceded in the 96th minute after they were denied a win at Huddersfield on Friday with the final kick of the match.

Reading drop down to 8th position and are now two points off 6th placed Stevenage who have two games in hand.

Reading fans reacted angrily on social media after they watched their side concede another stoppage time goal.

One fan said: “Sorry but sack him now I’ve seen enough. Owners want bums on seats. 91 mins to have a shot on target. Sideways and backwards football. No style of play. Sacked Hunt for style of play. 19th to 8th ok, I’ve never seen a manager so hated for it.”

Another supporter added: “Again more and more points dropped under Leam Richardson’s watch! How long will this continue? We need automatic promotion next season and the negative mindset he has installed will hold us back.”

Another said: “Today highlighted the gap in quality between the best League One side this season and ours. They weren’t great but they knew what was required and got promoted. It shows even IF we somehow got promoted via the play-offs, this side today isn’t ready for the Championship.

One more fan said: “I’m usually very defensive about our team but today was awful, no idea what the plan was and even the commentator today even said he didn’t know what the plan was. We needed to show fight and effort but no. Congrats to Lincoln on winning promotion.”
