READING WEST MP Alok Sharma has had to self-isolate after testing positive for covid.

He had been due to travel for meetings this evening, but had to change his plans after discovering his diagnosis.

The MP, who is a cabinet minister and was president of last year’s COP26 climate change conference, was sitting next to Boris Johnson this lunchtime during prime minister’s questions.

Like most MPs, he was not wearing a facemask – covid restrictions have ended, so there is no legal requirement to do so.

However, he was sporting a yellow and blue ribbon showing his support for Ukraine.

Mr Sharma tweeted news of his positive test.
