A pub that previously had a troubled history in one of the busiest areas of Reading has applied to stay open later at night.
The Pheasant stands at the junction of Southampton Street and Whitley Street in Katesgrove, on a busy stretch lined with small shops and takeaways passed by thousands of people each day.
The pub previously had a troubled history, with 17 incidents being recorded by licensing officers from January 2018 to September 2020.
These reports included a series of fights involving bottles, knives and allegations of “open drug use”.
Cocaine use was recorded by police officers on three separate occasions in 2018.
Thames Valley Police and Reading Borough Council licensing officers called for the licence to be reviewed.
During a meeting of the licensing applications sub-committee in December 2020, a series of tough licensing conditions was imposed on the pub.
The Pheasant was put up for sale in 2021, and has been allowed to sell alcohol and trade.
Now the current owners have applied to stay open from 10am to 11.30pm Sunday to Thursday, and 10am to 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
The application would allow them to sell alcohol, host films and indoor sports, play recorded music and anything of a similar description to recorded music during these hours.
A statutory consultation into the application is currently live.
You can take part by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk. The deadline for responses closes on Thursday, May 28.
