A plan has been approved that could see a chain American burger restaurant take over a former cocktail bar at a riverside destination in Reading.

The All Bar One cocktail bar closed down at The Oracle Riverside in May.

A plan for a new occupant to take over the unit has been approved.

The future occupant has been given permission to open at 10am each day, with closure at 11pm Sunday to Wednesday, midnight on Thursdays, and 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Plans state the unit has a capacity of 170 covers, incorporating a ground floor and a basement area.

The ground floor has a total capacity of 84 covers, with 66 indoor seats and 18 outdoor seats.

The restaurant will feature a dedicated entrance for deliveries, an area for condiments, self-service drinks, and a beer display.

The designs for the internal area initially had the client listed as Five Guys, before reference to the client was redacted.

Five Guys currently occupies an open space area at the upper mall of the shopping centre.

The plan was submitted by Hammerson, the owning company of The Oracle, which required a change of use permission to convert the unit from a drinking establishment to flexible use.

Planning officer Sian Hickey judged that the terms of the conversion to be appropriate, and the application was approved on Monday, July 14.

The change of use application also allows the unit to be for the sale of retail goods and even for financial, professional and commercial services in the future.
