Mark Bowen said that he ‘doesn’t know’ what the future holds for former Reading FC captain Liam Moore.

Moore was stippred of the club captaincy in January 2022 after he made it known to the manager at the time, Veljko Paunovic, and the club hierarchy that he wanted to leave.

He left the club on loan swap deal for the second-half of the 2021/22 season as Tom Ince joined from Stoke City.

However, Moore is now back at the Royals but is facing a spell on the sidelines with injury.

“I spoke with him (Liam Moore) last week,” said Bowen.

“At the moment he is injured. He’s got a really problematic injury with his knee and will be having treatment on it and we don’t know where it will lead.

“He has a year left on his contract. It’s difficult because he’s not fit and won’t be for a fair while.

“Our plans are to make sure he’s fit, and if and when he is, I imagine he will be at Paul’s call.

“He’s still a reading player still and Paul (Ince) will have the opportunity to play him or not.

“It (the injury) couldn’t have come at a worse time for him personally because he needs to get himself fit to try and secure his future wherever it may be.

“It will be Liam’s decision if he was fit. He’s in a difficult position and emotionally has to deal with being injured.”

Moore was the club captain when Bowen was appointed as Reading manager in October 2019 and the Jamaican international has made more than 200 league appearances since joining from Leicester City in 2016.

Bowen continued: “When I came in as manager he was my captain, he’s a very strong character and we had our disagreements, no doubt about that.

“When he was fit and on the pitch, he was doing a fantastic job for the club and other things conspired which saw him go on loan to Stoke.

“We have to hope he gets fit as soon as he can for all parties.”
