Changes are coming for the Morrisons supermarket in Reading to make life more convenient for some shoppers.

The huge store in Basingstoke Road comes with a deli, fishmongers, a cafe, recycling facilities and a fuel station.

The car park of the superstore is set to host an electric vehicle (EV) charging area.

Over in East Reading, a plan to convert a home of multiple occupation (HMO) into self-contained flats has been approved.

In Whitley, a plan to replace a demolished semi-detached house with a new family home has been put on hold.

You can view each application by typing the reference in brackets into the council’s planning portal.

Advertising plan for EV charging at Morrisons (PL/26/0290)

The Motor Fuel Group, which runs fuel and EV charging facilities throughout the country, has applied to install an advertising pole sign for an upcoming facility at the Morrisons car park.

Plans have already been approved to install an EV charging facility with a canopy in the car park, with the capacity to charge eight cars at a time.

Once installed, it will result in the loss of 44 parking spaces.

The Motor Fuel Group has applied to install a seven-metre pole sign advertising the facility to drivers.

Conversion of HMO into flats approved (PL/25/0778)

The conversion of an HMO into self-contained flats in East Reading has been approved.

The terraced house is situated in London Road, near its junction with Liverpool Road and the Sutton Seeds roundabout heading out of town.

The owner applied to convert the vacant HMO to provide a three-bed flat and three one-bed flats.

Planning officer Alison Amoah praised the development for providing one family-sized unit with three beds, with the project being approved on Friday, March 6.

Plan to replaced demolished semi-detached house withdrawn (PL/25/1022)

A plan to replace a demolished semi-detached house with a new five-bed family home in Whitley has been put on hold.

The house in Blandford Road was demolished sometime in the last two years, with streetview imagery from May 2023 showing it still standing.

The latest imagery from last July shows the site secured by wooden boarding, with information on the council’s planning portal stating that it had been converted into three flats.

A plan to build a five-bed house on the site was withdrawn by the applicant on March 4.

Plan to create nine homes in East Reading (PL/26/0249)

A plan has been submitted to seek permission in principle for up to nine new homes in East Reading.

These homes would be built on land within the boundary of the Donnington Hotel at 82-86 London Road.

An agent from Nexus Planning stated the project would ‘make appropriate, effective and efficient use of previously developed land, in a highly sustainable location.’
