AN OPEN day is to be held in Whitley Wood for people who want to become an on-call fire fighter.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is holding the selection test day on Sunday, September 10.

Running from 9.30am to 1pm at the Whitley Wood Road fire station, it gives applicants a series of physical tests to see if applications have the required fitness and stamina as well as abilities needed for the role.

They include climbing a ladder, being in an enclosed space, assembling equipment, a drill ground assessment and a ladder life exercise.

Successful applicants will be based at on-call fire stations across the Thames Valley: Hungerford, Lambourn, Mortimer, Crowthorne, Maidenhead.

For more details, or to apply, complete an application form on the fire service’s website, www.rbfrs.co.uk or email: recruitment@rbfrs.co.uk
