A FORMER chippy in Reading town centre could become another takeaway restaurant if plans are approved.

Waba has applied to take over 3 Broad Street, the property that was occupied by the short-lived Chipstar takeaway. It opened in December 2021 and closed in July last year.

Plans show the Chipstar branding replaced with a lime green shopfront with Waba lettering. There will also be an internal refurbishment including alterations to a staircase and a proposed dumb waiter.

There will also be a small seating area for six, as well as three window seats.

The company behind it was registered to a London address in January this year, but there currently doesn’t appear to be any other branches. Its logo features what looks like a rice bowl with a heart, and its slogan is ‘beautiful taste’. However, planning documents do not state what food Waba will specialise in.

There is a Waba Grill with locations in California and Arizona which specialises in tacos and rice boxes.
