READING School marked nine centuries of teaching with a community carnival last week.
The event attracted more than 5,000 attendees, including Reading Central MP Matt Rodda, The mayor of Reading, Cllr Alive Mpofu-Coles, a number of other councillors, and representatives from grassroots organisations.
The event featured performances from local primary school students as well as Ukrainian Choir Kryla, dance group Balamuty, brazUKas, and 852X.
It also saw events hosted by Reading FC Community Trust, Berkshire Cricket Foundation and Kingfisher Table Tennis, along with fencing and lacrosse taster sessions, a climbing wall, and a chance to play against National Badminton Champions.
Headteacher, Dr Chris Evans said following the event: “We are absolutely delighted by the incredible turnout. Seeing 5,000 neighbours and friends come together alongside our local MP, Mayor, and councillors, was truly inspiring.
“We are over the moon to bring so many wonderful people together to celebrate 900 years of education in Reading.
“The Carnival showcased the diversity, talent, and generosity of everyone involved, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to mark this milestone.
“We thank all performers, volunteers, and visitors for making the Community Carnival a day to remember.”
