DRIVERS in Reading can have their car washed, and support a good cause, right now.

A group of young people from Reading schools are busy cleaning vehicles as part of a two week summer course with National Citizen Service.

NCS not for profit organisation provides opportunities for young people to meet new friends and to make a positive difference where they live.

This group is hard at work encouraging motorists on King’s Road to pull into Wycliffe Baptist Church parking bays for a car wash.

They’re also running a bake sale inside the church and will be there until 4pm today, Wednesday, accepting donations for their efforts.

“We did some research, and discovered that in Reading one in 275 people are homeless,” said a member of the group.

“We found the figures quite striking, so we all agreed to support Launch Pad as our chosen charity.”

Launch Pad is Reading’s homelssness prevention charity, providing information and support for those at risk of losing their home.

“NCS came to our school to tell us about the events they run.

“We’ve had a great time with them so far, taking part in team building activities and getting to know everyone.

“Now we’re enjoying giving something back to the community,”said another member of the group.

The young people will also be in Reading’s Forbury Gardens tomorrow from about 11.30 am.

They will be raising awareness of homelessness and sharing what they’ve learned with the community.

They have a gofund me page to support their chosen charity.

Anyone wanting to contribute can log on to: www.gofund.me

Any drivers wanting their car cleaned should pull over to Wycliffe Baptist Church now.
